Health and PE COS Resource Alignment Summit


Are you an innovative teacher who loves to curate curriculum resources?  We would like to invite you to apply to attend the ALEX Health and PE COS Resource Alignment Summit!  The ALEX Team is looking for teachers, from Alabama K-12 schools, experienced in aligning classroom resources to course of study standards, with a focus on the Health and Physical Education content areas. These online curriculum resources should be designed to promote a deeper learning experience for all students.

The Health and PE COS Resource Alignment Summit work session will focus on curating and vetting high-quality, open educational resources which will be aligned to the new Health and PE Course of Study Standards.  Each teacher participating in the Summit will be required to align a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 Learning Resources. Click here to view an example of an ALEX Classroom Resource.  (A Classroom Resource is an instructional tool aligned to the Alabama Course of Study to support student achievement. These curriculum resources may include unit/lesson plans, learning activities, assessment items, interactives/games, and informational materials for use during classroom activities.

Application Timeline:

If you are interested in applying, complete the online application no later than Wednesday, April 24, 2019. The notification of acceptance will be emailed to applicants by Friday, May 3, 2019.


Selection Criteria:

  • Experience collecting online curriculum resources for Health and/or Physical Education.  A sample classroom resource may be viewed here.  


Support and Incentives:

Selected participants will receive funding toward preparation and expenses upon attendance to the full 1-day summit, AND 10-30 classroom resources approved and posted to ALEX. Meals and lodging will be the responsibility of the accepted participants.  Support and incentives are as follows:

  • $ 10 per approved classroom resource (minimum 10 - maximum 30)
  • Then for participants attending the full 1-day summit, living
    • Less than 60 miles one-way from the training site = $100
    • 60-199 miles one-way from training site = $250
    • 200+ miles one-way from training site = $350
  • CEU Credit  - Each teacher will receive 1 hour of CEU credit per 3 classroom resources in STIPD.


Resource Development Expectations and Due Dates:

Each selected teacher is expected to complete the following requirements.

  • Attend an in-person training session for an overview of the submission and publication process.
  • Align 10-30 online Classroom Resources. (Minimum of 10; Maximum of 30)
  • Submit 10-30 Classroom Resources for review no later than Friday, June 21, 2019.
  • Revise Classroom Resources as needed throughout the review process until the resources are approved for publication to the ALEX website.  To receive payment, all Classroom Resources must be fully approved no later than Friday, July 26, 2019.
